"February is Black History Month, and we want to take the opportunity to showcase and celebrate our local Black businesses, specifically within Worcester’s fashion scene. Worcester offers a rich, diverse and creative scene of entrepreneurs, many of which have started their own clothing, apparel and accessory brands and businesses.

Here’s a glimpse into the founders, creativity, community and inspiration that makes up Worcester’s Black fashion scene. Discover and support their businesses this month and beyond!"

NATALIA M. PÉREZ-GONZALEZ

Natalia Perez-Gonzalez is an award-winning journalist and freelance writer, covering culture, identity, relationships, and mental/emotional health. A proud Afro-Latina, she’s committed to speaking out on intersectionality and anti-Blackness, and is a strong advocate for womxn, mental healing, and Latinx communities.

Currently, she’s a Newhouse Foundation Scholar pursuing her master’s in magazine journalism at Newhouse School of Public Communications.

During her undergraduate career at Southern Adventist University (Collegedale, Tenessee) she worked as a lead reporter, lifestyle editor, managing editor and Editor-in-Chief for her campus newspaper, the Southern Accent. Throughout her EIC tenure, she strived to highlight diversity on her campus, rebrand the paper, and inspire discussions on race and equality. Her initiatives—including a Latinx/Hispanic themed issue, a #MeToo issue, a Race Relations issue and a modern redesign of the paper—led the Accent to win awards in feature and news writing from the Society of Adventist Communicators.

In her free time, you can find Natalia binging New Girl for the umpteenth time, watching home renovation videos on Tiktok, or editing content for Unrooted, a series she launched to explore stories of motherhood, eating disorders, heartbreak, friendship and self-esteem through the overarching theme of a womxn’s relationship with her hair.
